BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
For the latest information and times, please see:

In 1998 Sarah Brindle, owner of Stevie B’s Gym, became engaged in Submission, Ground Fighting, and Full Contact Combat (through other combat sources). After being exposed to many martial forms and pressure fighting tactics, we became involved with
Barry Foley:
and his partner Rachel Wheatley:
It was through this involvement that helped Barry, Rachel, and Gracie Barra Birmingham President, Ande Roberts:
bring the finest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club to their permanent home at Stevie B’s Gym & Martial Arts Academy.
Gracie Barra Birmingham UK was formed in 1998 by the respected and revered Mauricio Motta Gomes (The White Bear). Mauricio, one of the very few 7th Dans in the whole World, runs the club in direct association with Carlos Gracie Jnr: World President of Gracie Barra.
The Birmingham club are very proud of their roots and are ferociously defensive of their icons Mauricio, his son Roger Gracie, and the Dynamic Braulio “Cacará” Estima. They have had one success after another, gaining an awesome reputation. We believe this is due to its members having a great sense of humour and the ability to show humility to each other in every session they participate in.
In fact, the only thing that overshadows the club’s formidable track record is their reputation for being “such good guys”.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a development from traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. It is designed specifically for a person of average body size and physical ability to be able to use body movements, leverage and technique instead of strength and power to defeat opponents.
The techniques are easy to learn, and no previous martial arts experience is needed. As no physical attributes are needed, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art for young and old, male and female. The Brazilian Grand Master is over 90 years of age, and still trains every day.
