Chris Rice vs John Doyle – MMA Bout
Our very own MMA man Chris Rice, is taking on the American John Doyle this evening in the West Point Arena, in Exeter.
In the organisers own words:
Seasoned MMA veteran John Doyle (10-10-0) steps into the cage looking to end his losing streak, facing UK’s very own Chris Rice (15-7-0). Doyle, a 33 year old native of Philadelphia, USA is coming off three submission losses and a majority decision loss, where as Rice is enjoying a winning streak with wins over Rolandas Sicakukas at Ultimate Gladiators (heel hook) and an arm bar win over Aurelijus Kerpe at AM – Night of Champions. With both fighters hungry for victory this looks on paper one of the most anticipated fights of the night.
Best of luck to Chris – hope he can do as well as the student he teaches in his own MMA Academy, Sprawl n Brawl !
Days Out – What happens away from the Gym?
Ever wondered what the staff at the gym get up to in their own time?
How do they relax? Where do they go? What do they do to get a mind break from it all??
That’s what this new photo gallery is all about! Check out the photos to see how Stevie B’s Gym staff take a timeout.
What do you do to take a break?

Sprawl n Brawl MMA club guys clean up
On 21st February, 4 students from the Sprawl n Brawl Mixed Martial Arts club took part in their first interclub at Thaitans Martial Arts in Redditch.
They were competing against different clubs from around the Midlands. We’re glad to say that everyone from Sprawl n Brawl won… and in style! All were quick submission wins, with some good displays of striking ability too! The guys just totally outclassed their opponents and wouldn’t have looked out of place on a pro show!
Results
- Chris Miah won by anaconda choke (first round)
- Martin Rollins won by arm bar (first round)
- Saul Hall won by kimora (first round)
- Danny O’Flahrety won by armbar (first round) – beating a much more experienced opponent
Also, Phil Tommy who trains at Sprawl n Brawl (when he can) competed in a semi pro bout, and an amateur bout, and won by stoppage due to strikes and a draw.
We now look forward to more wins at the first Sprawl n Brawl show, at the Ivy Leaf on 16th April.
Ladies Dirty Boxing gallery
Our ladies are loving their dirty boxing classes here at Stevie B’s, so we pulled out the camera and took a load of photos of them during a training session.
Think you want to learn some real, street worthy self defence? Pop along to one of these classes then.
New MMA photo gallery
We’ve added a new gallery for our Mixed Martial Arts club here in Birmingham, known as Sprawl ‘n’ Brawl, led by Chris Rice. If you think you are interested in joining this club, don’t hesitate to contact us.

New Gym Forum Online
In our greater plans of building the community that is and surrounds Stevie B’s Gym, we’ve now added the new Forum where you can post and discuss subjects to your heart’s content.
We actually had a forum a long time ago, which some of you may remember, back on the old website that was created in 2003 or so. However, that forum ended up getting filled with spam, so became overrun with junk so rapidly that we couldn’t police it.
Hopefully this new system is better.
You will have to register with the forum to make any posts, but that helps make the place more personal and prevents spam too.
Let us know how you get on. There will be some tweaks that we can make to improve it in the future, so feel free to give us constructive feedback. Right now, we’re happy to have this feature brought back from the dead!
We apologise…
Over the coming couple of weeks, we’ll be adding and testing new features to this gym website. These will be some really great things to boost our community spirit, accessibility, and ability to teach fitness and exercise routines.
However, as we can’t test these things without taking the site down, it may be that some things get broken or temporarily stop working. If that’s the case, please forgive us, while we make the improvements to our systems!
We hope you’ll enjoy the coming changes, as they will be for your benefit!
New Year, New Goals
Well, it’s a big year now, 2010. Time for you to stop talking about getting fit, and really mean it.
In order to succeed, you need to have goals to aim for. We’ll happily discuss with you what can be achievable and in what timeframe – so whether you want to get in shape for your wedding, a fight, a compeition or any other reason, we’re here to guide you in the right direction.
Just ensure that whatever your goals are this year, you don’t lose sight of them!
